General membership Meeting Minutes September 20, 2006

All Board members were present. All teams represented, except All-Stars.

First guest speaker was the Ref assigner for our area. He is responsible for all the refs in the area, and if there are any problems or complaints about refs, they need to go to Sharon immediately and she forwards them on. Refs are trying to keep the games moving, there is a lot of work, they make mistakes, but they have the final word. Please no arguing with them. The refs are supposed to give their first and last name when asked. Most of the rules are the same. The wording has changed, but off-side rule is the same, and two yards on a throw-in. Sideline refs (not parents) are allowed to make any calls. Parents are only allowed to indicate the ball going out. Center ref can cancel out a side line ref’s call. As a coach, you can ask for clarification on a rule, but the ref’s decision is final. Refs don’t have to explain a call. During an injury, a parent should not come onto the field until permission from the ref is given. Sometimes a coach may ask for a parent to come out-that is fine, but still ask the ref.

Our second guest speaker(s) were Paul and Liam from Box2Box. They were happy with the coaches’ clinics and the participation. They are providing training and other areas of information like nutrition, hydration, etc. Training is going well. Training times have been adjusted due to earlier darkness for some teams. Goalie training has started earlier. Coaches are asked to help out during training. Be dressed and ready to participate. Also Box2Box is looking for feedback from the coaches on their games and what they would like to work on in practice. This needs to be emailed or communicated before training is set up for the week. All coaches will have game analysis for 2 games right now, but they need to request this. Coaches please warm your teams up before training begins, so they are ready to start with training. Box2Box is thinking about setting up winter training for teams or individuals to keep skills up. Let your teams know about this.

President’s report:
Coaches need to be near their team during training, preferably involved with the training. As coaches, and as an organization, we are responsible for the player’s safety. Only carded coaches are allowed on the sidelines during games. Please keep communication open-let us know what is happening-we can’t address problems unless we know about them. Concerns or complaints need to be written down and sent to the secretary and the Board will investigate all issues. Please send in receipts for all equipment, tournaments, expenses, etc. Doug has drafted a letter to the town, seeking land to put a permanent shed to store MYSA equipment. If anyone needs ice packs and/or first aid supplies let Doug know. Try-outs are scheduled for Nov 1st and Nov 8th as a rain date. Current teams do not have to try out, but it is recommended if new players are coming out, it gives some comparisons to the current players. New players must try out. Players can be added if slots are available, but players can not be removed from teams until after the spring season. Coaches’ clinics seem to be very positive and while learning, it also acts as a stress reliever. Doug had passed out an ethics sheet at the first coaches meeting and this information needs to be shared with the parents. No vulgarity will be tolerated from anyone. Red Bulls game info is available if teams want to go.
Vice President’s report:
Dennis is focusing mostly on training at this point and working with Liam and Paul. Feedback related to training has mostly been positive. Few issues have been worked out. Looking at the money we are spending for training, we have to maximize the benefits for the club. We need to fully take advantage of the training offered. Dennis wants to be involved and continue to learn as much as possible with regards to training and what we can do going forward. The hours seem to be on track for training. Goalie training may be extended a few weeks (through week 10). Dennis is trying to see what other towns are doing for training and how we can incorporate some of those things for MYSA. Another area is communication must be improved amongst the Board, parents and coaches. Dennis will be in contact with Ed to see what fields need to be lined, etc. Sherry Jones, one of the Hawks parents, wants more information about sponsorship for individual teams and possibly MYSA

Treasurer’s Report:
Can day is October 28th. The opt- out fee has been increased to $25, to encourage more participation. Juan is responsible to assign teams to designated locations. We need to know the locations that earn the most money. Peter may have a listing. Balance as of today, was approximately $13,500. This does not show the outstanding bills.

League contact:
Sharon had all permits up to date. This does not include rain-dates or make-up games. MYSA is low on the list for permits, so there is no guarantees for permits for make-ups. Coaches, make sure to send all game reports to Sharon, with refs and results. Also, cc to Tony Divencenzo for the website.

Meeting adjourned at 9:30.

Respectfully submitted,
Kathy Nilsson
