Updated Rules!

The following is from an email sent out by NJYS on August 16, 2005.

The Laws of the Game have been modified by FIFA.  Enclosed is a summary of those changes:

Law 11: The definition of offside position, “nearer to his opponents’ goal line” means that any part of his head, body or feet is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent.  The arms are not included in this definition. (if any part of his head, body or feet is past the midfield line.)

Law 12: A tackle, which endangers the safety of an opponent, must be sanctioned as serious foul play.

Law 14: The player taking the penalty kick infringes the Laws of the Game or a team-mate of the player taking the kick enters the penalty area.  If the ball does not enter the goal, the referee stops play and restarts the match with an indirect free kick to the defending team.

Law 14: All opponents must stand no less than two yards from the point at which the throw-in is taken.

Clubs officers need to remember that any and all non-volunteers participating in their club program need to be registered as a non-volunteer with New Jersey Youth Soccer.  This registration must be completed in the NJYS office.  Coaches need their new passes before they begin coaching/training in the new seasonal year.

MYBlueSoccer.net For Coaches has all the information you need to work with youth players and know the game. This resource, for Middlesex Coaches, includes coaching books and videos, soccer coaching Web links, and official soccer rules.
